Dyson does not make an air conditioner. Every Dyson "cooling" product sold in Ireland is a fan, and some also clean the air, heat or add moisture. Dyson says its fans "cool you, not the room". In November 2026 the purifying fans on dyson.ie cost €449.99 to €749.99. To make a room colder, you need a portable air conditioner.

⚡ Quick Summary

Electricity meter with a spinning arrow showing running cost
🌿 No Dyson air conditioner exists: Dyson's product page for the Purifier Cool Autoreact says it plainly: "Fan; not air conditioning unit."
🌿 What Dyson sells instead: plain fans (AM07 tower, CF1 desk, HushJet Mini Cool handheld) and purifying fans that can also heat (Hot+Cool) or add moisture (Humidify+Cool).
🌿 Running cost: a Dyson fan draws about 30-56 W. That is roughly 1-2c an hour at 35c/kWh.
🌿 A 9,000 BTU portable air conditioner draws about 1,000 W. That is about 35c an hour, or 18-33 times more than a Dyson fan.
🌿 Dyson suits you if you want a quiet breeze plus cleaner air, and maybe a heater in winter.
🌿 Dyson does not suit you if your bedroom is too hot to sleep in. A fan will not bring the temperature down.

❄️ Dyson Sells Fans, Not Air Conditioners, in Ireland

Dyson does not sell any product that lowers the temperature of a room. An air conditioner uses a compressor and refrigerant gas to take heat out of the air. Dyson says its machines have no cooling parts like that. On dyson.ie, every fan is described as "Cools you" or "Heats and cools you". None is described as cooling the air.

Dyson says this in its own words:
🌿 On the Purifier Cool Autoreact product page: "Fan; not air conditioning unit."
🌿 On its help community: Dyson fans "aren't designed to lower the room temperature - they cool you, not the room."
🌿 Also on its help community: Dyson machines "have no energy-hungry cooling elements" like air conditioning units do.

So when shops or adverts use the words "Dyson air conditioner", "Dyson AC" or "Dyson air con", they mean a Dyson fan.

🌬️ A Fan Cools Your Skin, but Only an Air Conditioner Cools the Room

A fan makes you feel cooler because moving air dries the sweat on your skin. The air in the room stays the same temperature. An air conditioner pumps heat out of the room through a hose, so the room itself gets colder.
🌿 Dyson fan: you feel cooler while you sit in the stream of air. Walk out of the airflow and you feel the real room temperature again.
🌿 Portable air conditioner: the room temperature drops. It needs a hose out of a window and costs much more to run.
🌿 Dyson's diffused mode: the Purifier Cool Autoreact can send air out of the back of the machine. Dyson says this mode purifies "without cooling you".

🛒 Dyson's Cooling Range in Ireland Costs €99.95 to €749.99

Dyson.ie lists seven purifying fans in its fans and heaters section in November 2026, priced from €449.99 to €749.99. Plain fans without a filter are also sold in Irish shops. Indicative Irish prices, November 2026:

🔹 Fans only (no filter)

🌿 Dyson HushJet Mini Cool: a handheld fan you can also wear on your neck. Up to 6 hours on one charge, 5 speeds. About €99.95.
🌿 Dyson Cool CF1 desk fan: Dyson says it uses 40% less power than its previous desk fan. 30 W at full speed, 370 litres of air a second. About €274.95.
🌿 Dyson Cool AM07 tower fan: the tall bladeless fan. 56 W, 10 speeds, timer from 15 minutes to 9 hours. About €399.95-449.99.

🔹 Fans that also purify the air

🌿 Dyson Pure Cool TP00: €449.99. Tower fan with a HEPA filter, 434 litres of air a second.
🌿 Dyson Purifier Cool TP7A Autoreact: €499.99. Tower fan with a HEPA filter and air quality sensors.
🌿 Dyson HEPA Purifier Cool TP09 Formaldehyde: €599.99. Adds a filter that breaks down formaldehyde.

🔹 Fans that also heat or humidify

🌿 Dyson Pure Hot+Cool HP00: €499.99. Fan, purifier and heater.
🌿 Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP7A Autoreact: €649.99. Fan, purifier and heater with sensors.
🌿 Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP09 Formaldehyde: €749.99. Fan, purifier and heater with a formaldehyde filter.
🌿 Dyson Purifier Humidify+Cool PH3A Autoreact: €699.99. Fan, purifier and humidifier. Extra moisture does not help you feel cool in summer.

The purifying fan prices above are from dyson.ie. Some Irish shops sell the same models for less. The Pure Cool TP00 was €399.95 and the Hot+Cool HP7A was €499.95 at one Irish retailer in November 2026.

💶 A Dyson Fan Costs About 1-2c an Hour; a Portable Air Conditioner Costs About 35c

A Dyson fan at full speed uses 30-56 W. A typical 9,000 BTU portable air conditioner uses about 1,000 W. At 35c/kWh, the fan costs 1-2c an hour and the air conditioner costs about 35c an hour.

Here is each one running 8 hours a night, at 35c/kWh:
🌿 Dyson CF1 desk fan (30 W): 0.24 kWh = about 8c a night.
🌿 Dyson purifying tower fan in fan mode (40 W max): 0.32 kWh = about 11c a night.
🌿 Dyson AM07 tower fan (56 W): 0.45 kWh = about 16c a night.
🌿 9,000 BTU portable air conditioner (1,000 W): 8 kWh = about €2.80 a night.

Over 60 warm nights, that is about €5-9 for a Dyson fan and about €168 for a portable air conditioner running at full power. An air conditioner switches its compressor off once the room is cool, so real use is often lower.

The wattage figures are at top speed. Dyson's spec sheet for the Purifier Cool tower lists a minimum of 6 W, so a fan on a low setting costs even less.

The watts are on the rating label or spec sheet of the unit.
8 hours is one night in a bedroom.
Discounted plans ~32-35c; standard rates ~38c (2026). Night rate ~18c on NightSaver.

Indicative estimates only. Dyson wattages are top-speed figures from Dyson spec sheets and Irish retailer pages (November 2026); a fan on a lower speed uses less. The air conditioner figure assumes the compressor runs the whole time; most units switch it off once the room is cool, so real use is often lower. A Dyson fan cools you, not the room. Standing charges are not included.

🔊 Dyson Fans List 29-64 dB of Noise and Up to 434 Litres of Air a Second

Dyson and Irish shops list noise and airflow for some models. The figures below are mostly at top speed, so a fan on low is quieter.
🌿 Dyson CF1 desk fan: 29 dB in sleep mode, 370 litres a second at full power.
🌿 Dyson Purifier Cool TP7A: 61.5 dB, 290 litres a second at full power.
🌿 Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP7A: 60 dB listed by a retailer.
🌿 Dyson AM07 tower fan: 64 dB(A) listed by an Irish retailer.
🌿 Dyson Pure Cool TP00: 434 litres a second, the most of the tower range.
🌿 Portable air conditioners for comparison: one 9,000 BTU model lists 52-54 dB, another lists up to 65 dB.

👍 A Dyson Suits You If You Want Clean Air and a Breeze in One Machine

A Dyson purifying fan makes sense if you want one machine for clean air all year, a breeze in summer and, with a Hot+Cool model, some heat in winter. It does not make sense if your only goal is a cooler room.
🌿 Hay fever or dust allergies: the purifying models use a sealed HEPA H13 filter. Dyson says it removes 99.95% of particles down to 0.1 microns.
🌿 A quiet bedroom fan: the CF1 lists 29 dB in sleep mode, and the purifying models have a night mode with a dimmed display.
🌿 No window hose: a Dyson plugs in and works. A portable air conditioner needs a hose out of a window.
🌿 No fast-spinning blades: Dyson lists the AM07 as bladeless with auto shut off.
🌿 Heat in winter: the Hot+Cool models have a thermostat you can set to the degree, from 0 to 37 on the HP00. In heat mode they use the heater as well as the fan, so check the label for the watts. Our electric heater running costs guide has those numbers.

🏠 You Need a Real Air Conditioner If the Room Stays Too Hot

If your bedroom or home office stays too warm to sleep or work in, a fan will not fix it. You need a machine that moves heat out of the room.
🌿 Portable air conditioner: no installer needed, hose out of a window. See our portable air conditioner guide for sizes and prices.
🌿 Air-to-air heat pump: a fixed unit on the wall that cools in summer and heats in winter. It needs an installer. See our air-to-air heat pump guide.

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

🌿 Buying a Dyson to cool a hot room: it cools you while you sit in the airflow. The thermometer on the wall will not move.
🌿 Trusting "Dyson air cooler" listings: Dyson's own pages call its cooling products fans. A listing that says "Dyson air cooler" is a Dyson fan under a different name.
🌿 Buying the Humidify+Cool for summer: it adds moisture. Moist warm air feels stickier, not cooler.
🌿 Forgetting the filter cost: Dyson says the HEPA and carbon filter in the purifying models needs replacing about every 12 months.
🌿 Using a Hot+Cool as your main heater: heat mode draws more than the fan figures above, so check the label. See our appliance running costs guide first.
